Aloysius Apartments, a four-story building located in the New Orleans Treme/Esplanade Ridge District, provides 49 mixed-income apartments, ground floor parking and 1,500 square feet of retail space. First occupied in 1892 by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, St. Aloysius Boys High School, 1137 Esplanade Avenue served to educate the young men of New Orleans for nearly 80 years with countless notable alumni such as City Mayors, legislators and New Orleans cultural icons. Later, the St. Aloysius buildings were demolished and since 1969 this site remained vacant.
