When it comes to staging an apartment for potential renters, it’s important that people from all walks of life, with varying styles and tastes, can all picture themselves in your place. Appealing to a wide variety of people can be a challenge when it comes to styling a space, but we’re here to help give a little guidance.

Choosing Colors

The first thing to remember is to keep it neutral. You may be tempted to pick out furniture and paint that seem trendy at the time, but when it comes down to it, choosing certain colors and patterns can automatically rule out potential renters from the get-go. Using neutrals doesn’t have to be boring though! Pick out some honey colors or warm tans to give the space a comfortable feel. Additionally, remember that consistency is key! Continuing the same colors throughout the space helps to give the interior consistency, and can even make the apartment look larger.

Arranging Furniture

When you’re bringing in the couch and coffee table, really think about the layout. Furniture needs to be arranged correctly in order to give the space that homey feel. Don’t simply line couches and chairs against walls. In order to make the room look bigger, float the furniture away from walls, and more towards the center of the room. Position furniture and accent pieces into conversational groups so renters can imagine a space where friends and family can gather.

Lighting Up the Space

While you’re picking out seating and tables to help frame the space, don’t forget the lamps! Lighting is one of the most important features when it comes to creating ambiance. Natural lighting isn&rsrsquo;t an option for every room, so focusing on lighting for those spaces is especially important. You should aim to have 100 watts of light for every 50 square feet. Designers also recommend using at least three different points of light per room. Try a floor lamp in one corner and a table lamp or two on the opposite side of the room.

Cleaning the Rooms

While you’re busy making sure each room is well-lit, it’s also important to remember to keep things clean! You don’t want to shed light on a dusty corner or scuffed up wall. Make sure that each room is thoroughly cleaned before you start the home staging process. Cleaning prior to picking out furniture and accents can help to ensure a clutter-free and spotless environment for potential renters to imagine themselves in.
