Salt Lake City has many informal neighborhoods from which to rent an apartment. The eastern portion of the city has higher property values than its western counterpart and housing is more affordable on the west side.

On the west side of Capitol Hill, the Marmalade District, once considered seedy, was heavily gentrified and is now thought of as an eclectic and desirable location. Other western neighborhoods such as Rose Park, Poplar Grove, and Glendale have made amazing recoveries from urban blight and it is more desirable than ever to rent an apartment in this area.

Just northeast of Downtown is The Avenues, which are more upscale the further up you go. The Upper Avenues, along with Federal Heights, are near the University of Utah.
