Situated midway between Houston and Galveston along the I-45 corridor, Webster is in the Clear Lake area. Johnson Space Center, which holds NASA facilities, is right in between Webster and its neighbor, Nassau Bay. If commuting to Houston is necessary, the drive is about 45 minutes outside of rush hour times, and about an hour to an hour and a half during morning and evening rush times. NASA is definitely the main employer here, and if you don't work for them, chances are your neighbor does, or your company is a contractor or subcontractor of NASA. There are a few unrelated businesses in the area, but the majority also depend on NASA for most of their business in some way. Many restaurants in the area boast pictures of NASA astronauts on their walls.

Webster has become very dense and crowded, as have most of the cities in Clear Lake. Webster is the closest community to I-45 on the East side, which is good for getting on the highway, but it also means the most noise and traffic. NASA Road 1/NASA Blvd/NASA Parkway (yes, they are all the same road), has recently been widened in order to help the problem. If you need peace and quiet or greenery, Webster may not be the number one choice, but these things will be hard to find anywhere in the Clear Lake area. Don't give up though-if you are very persistent and try driving around to hunt out little hidden apartment buildings away from 45, Nasa Road and Highway 3 (also known as Old Galveston Road), you may be able to find a gem. Then again, if you want to be near an endless choice of restaurants and all the shopping you need, Webster is not a bad place. By the way, get used to roads having many different names for the same road-it's a very common occurrence in the Houston area.

If you need public transportation in this area, forget it. There are occasional buses into Houston, and some park and ride stops near the highway, and that's about it. About the only public transportation in the Houston area that is very practical is a very small section of downtown covered by the light rail line. For being near the center of things, try the main apartment complexes near 45, Nasa Road, and Highway 3, such as Baystone on West Nasa Road 1, Waterford at Clear Lake on East Nasa Road 1, or Chatham Village on Highway 3. If you are looking for the pockets of quiet, try the apartments further back from these busy throughfares, such as Las Palmas-El Camino on El Camino Village Drive, which is a luxury complex with Adobe style buildings, Hidden Lake on Henderson, or the Towers at Clear Lake on Egret Bay Boulevard.

Things to do in Webster

It's not called the Clear Lake area for nothing, and if boating is what you enjoy, Clear Lake has it. You can rent a boat, have a boat built, cleaned, maintained, docked, or even live in it, as many people do at one of the local Marinas. Clear Lake's also got all of your American fun-time activities: bowling, lazer tag, roller skating, miniature golf, rock climbing, ice skating, movies, you name it. The Baybrook Mall is just on the other side of I-45, and it has most of the major mall stores and department stores. For parks and recreation, Webster may not have much green space left, but there are a few precious pockets of it nearby. Armand Bayou Park, between Bay Area Blvd, Space Center Blvd, and Red Bluff Road, is an oasis of peace and quiet, and offers some nature exhibits and walks near the bayou. Lake Nassau is very small next to it's Clear Lake neighbor, but it is a popular little spot for locals to fish, play basketball, and walk together or feed the ducks.
