Lake Jackson is in southern Brazoria County, Texas, only about a 20 minute drive to Surfside Beach on the Gulf Coast. It's neighbors are Clute and Angleton. The population of Lake Jackson stands at around 30,000. Lake Jackson is largely middle class, with an average income of a household at around $60,000. For a family it's closer to $70,000. Lake Jackson is about 87% White and 15% Hispanic, with a few other races mixed in. Lake Jackson was most defintely a well-planned community, and the layout of the streets are well-organized and unique. It was originally a company town for Dow, but they didn't want to to look that way, so the original town planner came up with some great ideas. For one, all of the streets were constructed with the idea that not one tree more than necessary should die for this purpose. The streets might not be perfectly straight, but it's beautiful aesthetically and adds a great atmosphere to the place. Street names were also managed well; streets heading away from downtown are all called something Way, including This Way, That Way, and Any Way. If you're concerned about being close to transportation routes, get one an apartment near route 288, the main route past the town. Your choices are Oaks of Flagridge on Plantation Drive or Oyster Creek on Any Way. Not too far away are Sherwood Forest on Lakeview Drive and Creekwood Landing on Timbercreek Drive. You might also try a little further east in Clute, or a little north in Angleton.Things to Do in Lake Jackson
The surf's up on Surfside Beach only 20 minutes away, and if you haven't picked up surfing yet, now's the time to try. Check out surf shops like Bingo Boards for lessons and equipment rental. Scuba diving is also a favorite past time for many. Or just try swimming, sunbathing, or good old sand castle building. Should you feel the need to get out of the sun and do some shopping, the Brazos mall is nearby.
