Kingwood Apartments for Rent

Kingwood, Texas

Kingwood could be called a northern suburb of Houston, but it really does set itself apart, along with its neighbor, Humble, by its peaceful location and escape from the rest of the greater Houston metropolitan sprawl. Although a commute to downtown Houston would take about one to one and a half hours during rush hour, it's worth a look if you are looking to get away from the concrete jungle. What's more, by Houston standards, this isn't bad. There is also a park and ride location, which is as close as it gets to public transportation in the Houston suburbs. It's a very attractive spot for families and residents looking for a little green due to its proximity to Lake Houston, and the trails and lakes in the area. Kingwood is a bit pricier than its neighbor Humble, with a median family income of around 85,000. Along with its beauty, it does have an air of exclusivity, with a predominantly wealthy and conservative population that enjoys its "master planned" subdivisions, golf courses, and home associations. Kingwood's population is quickly growing, however, and currently stands at around 60,000.

Neighborhoods and Apartments in Kingwood

Humble is a good choice of suburbs if you work in the area or in the Northeast section of Houston, or if you are willing to sacrifice the commute time for the opportunity to live in a green community. If you're going to work at Nasa, for example, which is Southeast of Houston, Kingwood would probably be too long of a commute. If you're looking for the quickest jump onto Highway 59 and South into Houston, try rentals near the West end of Kingwood Drive, like The Preserve at Kingwood or Lodge at Kingwood. If being closer the the green and/or a golf club is what you desire, try something like Paramount at Kingwood on Kellington Drive near the Kingwood Country Club. There are also a lot of rentals clustered near Lake Houston Parkway and the East end of Kingwood Drive.

Things to do in Kingwood

In Kingwood, green is the attraction. Lake Houston is right at many residents' front doors, and Lake Houston State Park is just a short drive north. There is plenty of fishing, boating, water skiing, and camping. There are a number of golf courses in Kingwood and neighboring Humble, as well as a golf instructional school. The Mercer Arobretum and Botanic Gardens are free to the public and offer 18 gardens with various themes such as herb, native, prehistoric, and tropical plants and butterflies. The Jesse H. Jones Park and Nature Center offers even more nature education exhibits, as well as some historic exhibits, such as an example of a homestead from the 1830s. For your shopping pleasure, the Deerbrook Mall and its many surrounding shopping areas offer whatever you desire.
