Things to do in St. Louis

The most recognizable feature of St. Louis is the Gateway Arch, symbol of the city and the nation's tallest man-made monument. The 630-foot-tall stainless-steel arch stands on the banks of the Mississippi River.

Other attractions in St. Louis include museums and galleries, restaurants and wineries. Riverboat gaming and pro sports are favorite pastimes of St. Louis residents and visitors to the city. St. Louis also offers renters a symphony orchestra, municipal opera, the Jefferson Memorial Building and the historic Anheuser Busch headquarters and brewery. Families can take advantage of Forest Park, which houses an open-air theater, zoo and planetarium.

Saint Louis is known as "Baseball City USA" and is ranked the "Best Sports City" in the United States. The St. Louis Cardinals, one of the oldest franchises in Major League Baseball, have won 10 World Championships, second only to the New York Yankees.

The National Football League's (NFL), St. Louis Rams have won one Super Bowl Championship and the National Hockey League's (NHL), St. Louis Blues have made three trips to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Soccer is also a prominent sport in St. Louis. The Saint Louis University soccer team is among the elite of NCAA soccer. However, St. Louis is yet to gain a Major League Soccer franchise. The highest ranking soccer club in St. Louis is the St. Louis Steamers.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is the region's major daily newspaper.

St. Louis Colleges and Universities

St. Louis is home to Washington University, a private research university known for schools of Medicine, Architecture and Social work. The oldest university west of the Mississippi River, Saint Louis University, was founded in 1818. The St. Louis metropolitan area is also home to at least 26 other institutions of higher learning.
