Waterford is a picturesque Michigan city about 37 miles northwest of Detroit. If you want to commute to the big city, that's about an hour to two hour's drive, depending on traffic. It's near the main routes of 24 and 59, which both feed into Interstate 79 that heads into Detroit. It's near its neighbors of Pontiac and Drayton Plains, and it's only about a 10 minute drive over about 3 miles to the Oakland County International Airport. A General Motors Service Parts operations and warehouse offers most of the employment opportunities in Waterford itself. Waterford is a little colder than Detroit. It can get a sweltering 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, while staying at or below freezing for much of winter.

Waterford is fairly homogeneous in the ethnicity of its residents. About 93% identify themselves as white, about 3% as black, 4% as Hispanic, 2% as Asian, .35% as Native American, another 2% or so from unlisted races, and about another 2% are mixed. Economically, most people are middle class, with an average household income of about $55,000 and an average family income of about $65,000.

Waterford has a historic district south on Airport Road, near Dixie Highway. Oakland Community College is in the southwest corner of the township, in the area called Four Towns. The Summit Place shopping center is in Huron Heights, on the northern shores of Sylvan Lake.

There are many parks and lakes in and around Waterford, such as Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area, Mohawk Park, Loon Lake, and Waterford  County parks. You can fish, boat, swim, hike, walk, bike, picnic, and have lots of fun in these areas. Silver Lake is the local golf course, and the Pontiac Country Club is not far away. Oakland County also has a wave pool.
