Wheaton College, a private, coeducational, Evangelical Protestant liberal arts school, is located in downtown Wheaton, Illinois. Although Jonathan Blanchard, the first president at Wheaton College, was fairly progressive, severing its ties to the the Wesleyan Methodists and campaigning strongly for abolition, Wheaton College hews true to its conservative Evangelical roots. Its campus features the Billy Graham Center, named for the college's most famous alumnus, which contains a museum dedicated to both the history of American evangelism and the international ministry of Billy Graham.
Wheaton College is also home to the Marion E. Wade Center, which is a major research collection of materials from the Inklings, a collection of British authors that included C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. The Wade Center at Wheaton College holds over 11,000 volumes including first editions, critical works, personal letters, manuscripts, audio and video tapes, artwork, dissertations, periodicals, photographs, and related materials.

As south Wheaton, Illinois began to expand throughout the 1980s and 1990s with the Farnham, Stonehedge and Arrowhead subdivisions, and major shopping districts including Danada Square and Towne Square, Wheaton neighborhoods have increasingly become divided between north and south along Roosevelt Road, which roughly divides the regions. Northside Wheaton neighborhoods are most commonly associated with Wheaton North High School, downtown Wheaton, and the community's historic residential district. Southern Wheaton neighborhoods are linked with newer homes and subdivisions, Wheaton Warrenville South High School, and the Danada shopping area.
