Things to Do in Desoto

A local favorite is the Roy Orr walking trail that goes throughout the city, much of it alongside the creek. It's a favorite for pet walkers, but Desoto does have a strict "Scoop the Poop" ordinance, which means you must clean up after your pet. To help in this and the general "Keep Desoto Beautiful" campaign, there are four "Pet Mitt" locations along the trail. All together, Desoto has about 480 acres of parks, including Briarwood Park, Ernie Roberts Park, Grimes Park, and Kiva Park. There's also the Windham Hill Nature Preserve. The Corner Theatre features community theater options. There are a number of community events in Desoto, particularly with Black-oriented themes such as the Martin Luther King celebration, Black History month programs, and a large Juneteenth celebration, celebrating the day slaves in Texas won their freedom.
