Deer Park, Texas
Deer Park is a city with a population of about 30,000. It is located about 20
miles Southeast of Texas, near its neighbors of Pasadena and La Porte. It's also
about 35 miles North of Galveston. It's about a 40 minute to an hour and a half
drive into downtown Houston, depending on traffic. Your most likely route into
Houston will be highway 225 and onto the inner beltway of 610. The median
household income in Deer Park is about 60,000. For a family it's around 67,000.
There was originally a park for deer in the area, hence the name. Deer Park,
along with its neighbors of Deer Park and Pasadena, is close to the Houston Ship
Channel, and it has a large burgeoning petrochemical industry. It is also where
the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 actually took place. The victory of this
battle ensured that Texas, then a republic, became independent. Some people
refer to it as "the Birthplace of Texas" because of this.

One of the big attractions in Deer Park is the golf course called "The
Battleground." It's considered one of the better golf courses in the Houston
area, and offers some great scenery and challenging holes. Just a short drive
away is the Clear Lake area, with a multitude of restaurants, boating
facilities, and NASA's Johnson Space Center, of which you can take a tour to see
how this agency insures that most astronauts make it out into space and back
safely. Galveston is only about an hour's drive, with plenty of beaches and
dining available. And Houston offers all of the usual attractions of a big city:
theater, ballet, orchestra, mainstream and alternative films
