Alvin, Texas
Alvin, Texas is a Southeast suburb of Houston, approximately 32 miles from
downtown and usually a little over an hour commute during rush hour traffic.
It's located near routes 8 and 35. The population of the city is about 22,000,
and it's known as the childhood home of Nolan Ryan, famous baseball player and
owner of other businesses such as cattle raising and hot dog producing. The
median family income in Alvin is about $45,000.

Many apartments are located near the South Alvin Loop off highway 35, such as
Cedar Grove on South Street, Fairway Square on Fairway Drive, and Hillcrest
Village, also on Fairway Drive. There are also many located near route 71, such

Others are scattered away from the roadways, such as Steeplechase, which is
close to National Oak Park.
Things to do in Alvin, Texas
Like many childhood homes of famous people, Alvin has decided to honor Nolan
Ryan with his own museum. You can learn about his life and career as a hall of
fame baseball player. You can even try catching a ball going at the speed of one
of Ryan's famous pitches. It's located at Alvin Community College. Alvin also
has 10 parks to choose from for your recreational pleasure, including Resoft
Community Park, and the 26 acre Alvin Rotary Park. Other attractions include the
Alvin Historical Museum in the old post office, and Froberg's Vegetable Farm,
where you can buy fresh produce or pick your own. Also try the Bayou Wildlife
Park, where they have a kind of mini zoo, with creatures such as zebras,
ostriches, lamas, and rhinos for your viewing pleasure.
Alvin has a number of annual events, such as a good 'ol Texas Livestock shows
and rodeos, on the rodeo grounds.
