Allen, Texas

The city of Allen, Texas is about 25 miles north of Dallas. The population of Allen has nearly doubled since 2000, going from about 40,000 to around 78,000 today. Like most of Texas, Allen is growing at a tremendous rate, and therefore struggles along with its neighbors at keeping up an infrastructure to keep up with the population increase. The characteristics of the town are changing quickly, as well, and one of them is the economic status of the population. It's changed somewhat from a predominantly white (87%) low to middle class area to a still predominantly white, but now more middle to high-middle class area. The average income for any household in Allen is about 107,000. For a family it's about 98,000. If you're commuting into Dallas for work, traffic on Interstate 75 can be a killer, and during rush hour it will be about an hour commute. However, you won't get much better in any suburb area of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
