Portland, Oregon Apartments

There are five main sections of Portland. Downtown Portland lies in the Southwest section and centers on Pioneer Courthouse Square. This area is filled with parks, museums, businesses and Portland State University. Beyond downtown are the campuses of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Lewis & Clark College, and Portland Community College/Sylvania. Neighborhoods with apartments for rent include South Portland, South Burlingame, Hillsdale, and Multnomah.

In Northwest Portland, apartment renters have the option of renting in the Northwest District, a former warehouse area that has been converted into an area with apartments, condominiums, restaurants, brewpubs, shops and art galleries Northeast Portland contains a diverse collection of neighborhoods with apartments for rent. This area is also the home of the Oregon Convention Center.

The Rose Quarter, named after the Rose Garden Arena, is home of the Portland Trail Blazers, and also includes the Blazers' former home, the Memorial Coliseum. The Coliseum is the home to Portland's hockey team, the Portland Winter Hawks, of the Western Hockey League, though they often play at the Rose Garden. The newest Rose Quarter tenants are the LumberJax of the National Lacrosse League.

Southeast Portland stretches from the warehouses by the Willamette, through the historic Ladd's Addition, to the Hawthorne and Belmont districts. Rental units in this area cater to an eclectic mix of cultures and personalities.

Portland Transportation

Portland apartment renters have multiple options for getting around the city. TriMet operates most of the region's buses and the Metropolitan Area Express, or MAX, light rail system, which connects the city and suburbs.

Universities and Colleges in Portland, Oregon

Portland State University is Oregon's largest university. Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) includes a major medical school and several major research departments. Community colleges and private colleges, including the University of Portland and Concordia and Willamette Universities make for a diverse, educated population.

Newspaper and Magazine Publications in Portland, Oregon

The Oregonian is the only daily newspaper in Portland. Local weekly papers include Willamette Week, the Portland Tribune and The Portland Mercury.

Things to do in Portland, Oregon

Skiing on Mount Hood, running and rock climbing are popular with residents of Portland and athletes utilize the many open park spaces for their outdoor activities. Mt. Tabor Park is focused on an extinct volcano, Forest Park is the largest wilderness park within city limits in the United States, with over 5,000 acres.

For alternative recreation and if you like beer, Portland is a great place to live and rent an apartment. Portland is home to more breweries than any other city in the country.
