Denver, Colorado is known as "The Mile-High City." Denver's elevation, 5,280 miles above sea level, is the reason -- the city is in fact a mile high. But Denver has other notable features. The city is also well known for being situated by the beautiful Rocky Mountains. When discussing Denver weather, there's a common thing that residents say: "If you don't like the weather right now, wait 15 minutes, and it will change." While that may not be literally true, it does say a lot about the weather in Denver: It changes frequently, and residents sometimes don't know what to expect. Regardless, unpredictable Denver weather always makes for a good ice breaker.

Denver weather is differs from season to season, and the Rocky Mountains to the west of the city as well as the air masses around the city play a large role in the weather. With the average temperature being about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, Denver is fairly nice year round despite instances of very cold weather, snow and thunderstorms. When most people think of Denver weather, they imagine a snowy place. Snow can be expected from mid-October all the way through the end of April. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Denver weather consists of about 250 days of sunshine.

Denver Schools and Universities

Denver schools have a great reputation, and there are quite a few universities in Denver from which to choose if you are looking to enroll in higher education. Some Denver universities and colleges include: University of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, Johnson & Wales University and University of Colorado at Denver. Denver public schools consist of 73 elementary schools, 15 kindergarten through eighth grade schools, 17 middle schools, 14 high schools and 19 charter schools.

Denver Restaurants

Like any big city, Denver has some fantastic restaurants. In downtown Denver, located at 225 East Seventh Avenue, a popular restaurant is Mizuna. Great for dates or special occasions, this Denver restaurant serves everything from lobster mac 'n' cheese to beef tenderloin and is known for having excellent service. If you're looking for 24-hour Denver restaurants, in case you find yourself out and about the city late at night, there's University Park Cafe on East Evans Avenue and Viva Burrito on Leetsdale Drive. Twenty-four hour Denver restaurants also include numerous Waffle House locations, a restaurant that serves mostly breakfast food and coffee.

Denver Neighborhoods

Denver neighborhoods include downtown, which is great if you're interested in living in an urban setting. You'll find condos and apartment rentals in the downtown Denver neighborhood. For a more suburban setting, Denver neighborhoods and suburbs might be your best bet.Neighborhoods in and around Denver worth considering include Arvada, Aurora, Cherry Ridge, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, Lower Downtown (LoDo), Thornton, Westminster and Wheat Ridge.
